On Wednesday, November 28 Emery opened up their Wrestling season against Union. As expected, the lower weight classes dominated their competition. Jess Christiansen (106), Jarin Allen (113) and Dwaine Farley (126) all won their matches, Jess and Jarin did so by pinning their respective opponents.
McKay Meccarriello (152) and Kove Johansen (220) each pinned their opponent as well but were the only two other wrestlers from Emery what won their match as Emery fell to Union in a close one, 42-45. Hayes Dalton (182) was involved in a close match but ultimately fell by decision in overtime. Gus Dalton suffered an injury on Wednesday when he dislocated his shoulder during his match.
When asked about the results after the first match of the year, Coach Kirk Christiansen said, “[The results] are about what we thought. I was hoping for better wrestling in the middle weights but three of the four got the first take downs and I was proud of that. We have focused a lot on that [recently in practice]. I am pleased with the boys and their hard work and good attitudes.”
The Spartans travel to the Salem Hills Tournament later this weekend.
