In the team’s first meet after the holiday break, the Emery High School swim team represented themselves extremely well as they faced off against Grand, Canyon View and Payson at home. In what was their largest meet of the season so far, the Spartans held their ground and came away with several achievements for team members and the team as a whole.

“We had a lot of PR’s: a ton,” explained head coach Andrea Johansen. “We came back from a long vacation and the kids were motivated.” It was that motivation that led both the boys’ and girls’ teams to a first place finish against the three opposing schools.

The boys’ 200 yard medley relay team, composed of Devin Willson, Daryl Guymon, Nate Gilbert and Garret Stilson, took first in the event with a time of 1:53.82. Two members of the girls’ team placed in the top five in the 200 Yard IM. Laci Hulse and Lexi Johansen placed second and third, respectively.

In the boys’ 200 IM, Willson again scored big for the home team, coming in at a first place time of 2:28.99 with fellow Spartan Deegan Minchey coming in behind at second. Another first-place finisher for Emery was Madi Allinson, who placed first in the girls 500 yard freestyle coming in at 6:15.77

Sophomore Dakota Wright placed second in the boys’ 100 yard backstroke, and both Daryl and Keldan Guymon scored well in the 100 yard breaststroke, coming in at first (1:10.79) and third.

Both A and B teams for both teams fared well at the 400 yard freestyle relay with the girls A team taking second and the boys A and B Teams taking the first (3:50.02) and second place spots.

The Spartans will next travel to Richfield to face off against the Wildcats Thursday evening.
