Emery Telcom has been offering scholarships to high school seniors for over 20 years. The program originally extended scholarships opportunities to students in Emery County. Years later, Emery Telcom started offering the funds to seniors in Carbon and Grand counties.
Every student in the tri-county area is eligible to receive one of the $1,000 scholarships. However, Emery Telcom Director of Marketing Barbara Rasmussen explained that the company aims to provide funds to students who may not be considered for other scholarships because they do not have perfect grades. “We give the money to those who may not have the opportunity to have a scholarship but are good students and get decent grades,” she explained. “We look at applicants who may not have a perfect grade point average and give them priority over the 4.0 students”
This year, fifteen students from throughout Carbon, Emery and Grand counties received a scholarship.
