The #10 Lady Spartans were on the road on Wednesday to take on #7 Grantsville for their first match in the state soccer tournament. Emery came out and took control of the game in the first half, determined to live to play another day. The Lady Spartans scored twice in the first 40 minutes to take a 2-0 into half.
Grantsville found the back of the net in the second half but Emery was also able to add to its score. The Spartans completed the upset with a 3-1 victory to advance onto the quarterfinals.
Emery will have to pull off an even bigger upset to continue to the semis. The #10 Lady Spartans will head to play #2 Judge Memorial on Saturday.
