The students and faculty at Canyon View Middle School were treated to the smells and tastes of the FACS class Dutch oven cook off on Wednesday morning. Many students worked for a number of hours preparing entire meals, desserts or main dishes for competition.
Winners in each division were as follows:
Best Main Dish: First place – Madi Simmons, Paulina Martinez and Emilia Salazar, chicken and cheesy potatoes; second place – Owen Cordner and Bryant Durrant, chicken fajitas; third place – Haylie McArthur and Danny Jones, Navajo tacos.
Best Dessert: First place – Kanyon Allred and Bradyn Atwood, peach cobbler; second place – Johanna Snow and Destiny Horrocks, brownies; third place – David Wacasey, Shane Guymon and Kadin Hoerner, peach/blackberry cobbler.
Best All Around Meal: First place – Sydney Carter, Alexia Mortensen and BreElle Parkins, breakfast burritos, hashbrowns and apple/raspberry cookie cobbler; second place – Addison Hougham, Tera Donaldson and Aspen Peay, taco soup and brownies; third place – Deri Thatcher, Jenny Bodily, Kinlie Jensen, Jakoda Funk and Saydee Grange, hamburger enchiladas, chips and salsa, and cinnamon chips.
