During the Ferron City Council meeting that took place on Oct. 10, Kathy Perkins visited the council members and mayor to inform them that the new welcome sign for the city is now complete, citing it as gorgeous and heavy. Brief discussion was had on the issues of the property the sign will be placed on and Perkins informed all that the final cost on the first sign was $450.

Eldon Holmes was credited as donating his time for the sign, which is metal and the silhouette of the rainmaker. The sign is eight feet tall and simply needs to be placed in the ground. As of now, only one sign has been completed, with the next hoping to be installed on the south side of Ferron.

Mayor Adele Justice stated that the office personnel wishes to change the hours due to the recorder needing to leave early on Fridays for family issues. The new proposed hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. then closing at noon on Fridays.

This was approved with the new hours taking affect this week. The hours are posted on the marquee and the answering machine now reflects the new hours. Furthermore, there is a number that may be called in case of emergencies.

Mayor Justice also spoke on a recent meeting with Jones & DeMille Engineering to create a trial. The mayor is highly interested in putting a walking path or bike trail in the city and plans to conduct a survey to learn what the citizens would like. Personally, she would like to see one go up to the golf course and around, or to Clawson or Molen and back.

Mayor Justice was given the suggestion to form a citizen committee to push forward and receive grants. The council touched on the recent mountain bike event that took place in Price City and how great it was for the community. Troy Winter mentioned that Huntington once planned to connect all the cities with a trail with use of CIB money, but that he was unsure what happened with that plan.
