FERRON COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM

Ferron City now has an official volunteer Community Emergency Response Team. Team members completed eight units of classroom instruction, followed by a written exam and hands-on skills testing.

CERT training is designed to prepare you to help yourself and to help others in the event of emergency or disaster. Damage caused by natural disasters and manmade events can be extensive. While emergency services personnel are best trained and equipped to handle emergencies, they may not be immediately available in a catastrophic disaster. In such a situation, members of the community may be on their own for several days or longer. CERTs respond in the period immediately after a disaster when response resources are overwhelmed or delayed.

CERT members are trained in disaster preparedness, fire safety and utility controls, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue operations, disaster psychology and terrorist incidents.

Ferron City Council member Joe Trenery spearheaded the formation of the team. The course was taught by Emery County Sheriff’s Office personnel Captain Kyle Ekker, Sergeant Tom Harrison and Janalee Luke. Subject matter experts were Fire Chief Randy Nielson and Lowell Morris, PA. Ferron CERT members are Mike Burroughs, Vicki Larson, Jean Morlan, Julee Oakeson, Angela Paskett, Kathi Kearney Reaves, Jerry and Gerry Stotler, Joe Trenery and Ellen Wingate.
