By Patti Rigby Carbon School District Child Nutrition Director
Carbon School District celebrated Earth Day on April 22 by giving each school lunch student a packet of Heinz tomato seeds. Our hope is that students will plant the seeds and harvest some tomatoes. This will give them the firsthand field-to-fork experience and appreciation for the wonder of a single seed growing and growing then producing nourishment that fuels the student. This proprietary tomato seed requires less water to grow and has a strong yielding, meaning it produces more fruit on the vine than other tomato seeds.
What a great way for kids to learn now about sustainable agriculture on a smaller scale and relatable level!
