Sitting in a second place tie with Juab in the Region 12 standings with just two games remaining, Carbon’s Cole Fossat toed the rubber against the Wasps Tuesday afternoon and turned in a gem on the mound and at the plate to give the Dinos a huge 6-0 win in Nephi.
Fossat allowed nine hits in his complete game win while striking out 12. He also knocked in four runs at the plate, nailing two home runs in contest. With the two homers, Fossat pulled into a tie with three other athletes atop the home run leaderboard in the state with seven. Dillon Lowe also homered in the game, his second on the year. Anthony Maclean and Kaiden Lewis had the other two extra base hits in the game.
The Dinos scored just one run in the first four innings before notching five runs combined in the fifth and sixth before Fossat shut the door in the seventh for the win.
Carbon (9-10, 5-2 Region 12) will try to get back to .500 on the season with another game against Juab (10-5, 4-3 Region 12) at home Thursday. With a win, the Dinos would secure the second seed in Region 12 and would play the third seed from Region 11 (currently Grantsville) on Saturday, May 9 at the home site of the regular season champion of Region 10 (currently Park City) in the first round of the 3A state playoffs.
