The Ninth Annual High School Art Competition will be held at Gallery East on the USU Eastern campus in January. The competition is an annual opportunity for Utah’s high-school-age students to create and exhibit art work that will be judged against their peers.
Students are invited to enter artwork of all media: including ceramics, pottery, jewelry and traditional two-dimensional work such as painting, drawing, and photography. Gallery director Noel Carmack says that the statewide competition has featured the work of students from as far away as Vernal, Tooele, Taylorsville, Logan, Ogden, Nephi, and Saint George. Students from Carbon High School, Emery High School, Helper Junior High, Pinnacle Canyon Academy, and Wasatch Academy have participated as well. “I hope to see more entries than ever before,” says Carmack. “The competition is becoming more widely known as more schools participate.”
All artists of high school age (14-18 years old) are eligible to participate, including public high school students, home-schooled students and students attending private schools. Entrants are not required to be enrolled in an art class to participate. The deadline for electronically submitted entries is December 7, 2012. The deadline for hand-delivered entries is Tuesday, January 8 at Gallery East.
USU Eastern’s Ninth Annual High School Art Competition will be exhibited from January 14 through February 12, 2013. An closing reception and awards ceremony will be held Friday, February 8, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Participating students and parents are invited to attend. The public is welcome.
