Both teams came into the game with a record of 8-3. Grand quickly led by 9-0 after the third inning and the lead was too much for the Spartans to overcome. Emery chipped away, though, scoring five runs over the final four innings of play.
Ethan Tuttle picked up the loss on the mound and three Emery players doubled in a game mired by weather conditions. Rain and hail fell throughout the game, even causing 15-minute delay at one point.
Emery (8-4, 2-1 Region 15) will play at Monticello (3-5, 0-2 Region 15) on Friday. The Spartans beat the Buckaroos 9-1 on March 26.
