The fifth annual Joe’s Valley Bouldering Festival took place once again on Sept. 26-29 in Emery County.
While staple activities and fun were featured at the festival for all to enjoy, new entertainment was also brought in this year. On Thursday evening, all in attendance had a chance to meet Isaac Caldiero, the first American Ninja Warrior Champion. Alongside his win, Caldiero is also the author to the original Joe’s Valley Guidebook.
While Caldiero attended many events during the festival, his appearances kicked off with a B4 Adventure Ninjaline course as well as a poster signing opportunity. This took place at the Emery County Recreation Center and was free for all. Also on Thursday evening were ghost tours led by the Emery High theater department.
Friday welcomed a geology lesson for Joe’s Valley, Caldiero’s assembly at Emery High School, yoga in the park, clinics, rodeo games, lore of Joe’s Valley and, of course, the bouldering meet-up.
On Saturday, the fun began with yoga in the park followed by breakfast by Lamy’s and coffee provided by Cup of Joe’s. There was a shoe demo event that ran through the morning at the rec center as well as the climbing meet-up and clinics. Climber games were hosted for those that were brave enough to give them a whirl while cooking clinics, a trade fair, dinner and drawings were hosted for those that wanted to enjoy the festival without actually getting their hands dirty with rock dust.
The festival concluded on Sunday morning with coffee and doughnuts provided by Stewart’s Marketplace and a clean up with the SLCA of ash and garbage.
