The Helper American Legion squad were handed two straight losses in the American Legion baseball tournament on Monday and Tuesday, ending their season.
Helper won back-to-back American Legion state championships in 2013 and 2014, before not participating in American Legion a year ago, opting to play in Utah’s Perfect Game League instead.
Helper went into this season’s tournament as the number one seed out of the south division after posting an 11-1 regular season division record. Grantsville, the fourth seed out of the north, was first up for Helper. Helper bats were non-existent as Mitch Olson received no run support in the 5-0 defeat, dropping the team to the loser’s bracket.
Then on Tuesday, Layton did just enough to slip by Helper by a final score of 2-1, ending a promising season. Cole Fossat took the loss on the mound.
