Press Release

Three students from Helper Middle School participated in the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) National Competition in Washington DC July 4-10.

Students attended dynamic workshops and break-out sessions, participated in STAR Events, met new people and expanded their leadership potential. Great memories were made at the various tourist DC attractions, which included the National Mall, Arlington Cemetery and visits to the Utah Congressmen on Capitol Hill.

Shaubre Stockdale earned a silver medal in Food Innovations where she had to use a Utah’s Own product to create a snack item that would appeal to many. Her scrumptious Beez a Poppin popcorn recipe was a huge success.

Marlena Dickerson and Crystal Nef received a gold medal. They competed in Chapter Service Project Display. They planned and implemented a “Parents Night Out Event” with the Utah Foster Care in which they offered babysitting services and dinner for families of foster care children. This event allowed foster parents to do what they wanted for five hours while FCCLA members took care of their children.

FCCLA is the only student led organization with the family as its major focus.

Through FCCLA, students learn leadership skills in working with youth and adults and preparing them fro careers and community service.

Helper Middle School FCCLA is under the advisement of Mrs. Susan Heller.
