Green River was filled with the excitement of a new addition to the John Wesley Powell Museum on Saturday as a ribbon cutting for the new river trail was hosted at noon. Locals and visitors came to help celebrate the new opening of the trail along with city officials and state representatives.
The trail is located behind the museum and runs along the river for 1/3 of a mile, out and back.
During the ceremony, a check of $1,500 was presented to Dennis Morelli by Green River City Mayor Travis Bacon to assist with the cost of a monument that was placed along the trail to honor the Morelli family. The family has lived in the area for more than 100 years.
Along with the ribbon cutting, the day was also spent celebrating the 185th birthday of John Wesley Powell with fun activities and cake as well as free admission to the museum.
