Just three points separated the first-place finishing Carbon High girls’ track team and second-place Stansbury at the recent Uintah Invitational, hosted in Vernal on Saturday. The boys’ team pushed through for a fifth overall, helping the Dinos to a second-overall win at the meet, behind Stansbury.
Pinnacle High’s team also represented at the event.
The Lady Dinos didn’t waste any time, opening the action with a third-place finish in the sprint medley relay while the boys took fourth in the same event. Senior Sarah Ohlwiler managed second in the 100 meter hurdles while teammate Megan Swasey finished in fourth.
Cache Barrett finished in fifth for the 100 meters after which Sadie Crompton and Emily Broadbear represented in the 1600 meters, taking second and fourth respectively. Drew Jones added more points to the Dinos’ total thanks to a ninth-place finish in the boys’ 1600.
Carbon girls grabbed third in their round of the 4×100 as well as the boys. Lindsey Blanc finished less than a second ahead of West Jordan’s Sadie Adams in the 400 meters, good enough to grab third for her team. Carter Fausett finished seventh in the 400 meters for the boys.
Swasey came back in the 300 meters, grabbing fourth while Crompton grabbed a narrow first-place win in the 800 meters. Sophomore Regan Hanson grabbed fifth in the same event. Blanc added more Dino points after the 200 meters, in which she finished fourth. Teammate Broadbear also grabbed a large first-place win in the 3200 meters.
Jones worked his way in-between Stansbury finishers, managing a fourth place in the 3200 meters for the boys. James Bryner also finished tenth in the 3200. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams grabbed second-place finishes in the 4×400 after which Lady Dinos Caitlyn Dimick and Jodi Noyes placed fourth and sixth in the discus finals.
Dimick continued in the javelin, grabbing third while Blanc finished seventh in the same event. Junior Addie Taylor also finished in seventh at the long jump. Kyle Quinton finished third in the shot put while Noyes and Ohlwiler managed sixth and eighth in the girls’ shot put contest.
Ohlwiler, Mikelle Monson and Ronni Williams continued to dominate for the Blue and White, grabbing fourth, fifth and eighth-place finishes in the girls’ high jump. Quinton returned in the boys’ long jump, grabbing second.
