The Lady Dinos’ golf team placed third in Region 12 and also took third in the recent region tournament. The region tournament was held in Cedar City, at Cedar Ridge Golf Course, on Thursday.
At the region tournament, it is decided which teams advance to the state tournament as well as the top 12 individuals and academic honors. Carbon’s third place finish earned the Lady Dinos a spot at the state tournament, which will be hosted at Sleepy Ridge Golf Course in Orem on May 17 and 18.
Carbon also had three girls place in the top 10 and one place in academic all-region. Laini Davis finished seventh in region, Jordan Bianco ninth and Aubrey Fausett tenth. Gwyn Kardelis was named academic all-region.
In team standings, Juab was first in region followed by Richfield, Carbon, Canyon View and North Sanpete.
During the region tournament, Fausett led the team with 66 points. Bianco made 62, and both Davis and Kardelis finished with 56 points for a team total of 240.
Juab won the tournament with 279 points while Canyon View came in second with 243 points.
“I am very proud of my team,” said head coach Kenji Otani. “Laini has been solid all season and has been in the top 10 all season. Jordan is a beginning freshman and has been 10 or 11 all season. Aubrey turned it on and moved two spots yesterday. And Gwyn, academic all-region is tough, if you aren’t at least a 3.9 GPA, you won’t make it. All of my girls have worked hard and I am proud of each and every one.”
