The Carbon Lady Dinos concluded the 2017-18 season Friday morning, losing to the South Sevier Rams in the 3A consolation bracket, 48-39.
Carbon struggled mightily in the first half before mounting a furious, fourth quarter comeback, in which they outscored the Rams 22-16. Carbon shot just 9.5% in the first half (2-21), mustering just six points, a season low for a half. The Lady Dinos responded with a 10-20 mark from the floor in the second half.
The Lady Dinos got within four points, 38-34, after a Kelsey Sorenson three late in the fourth during a 17-6 stretch for Carbon. Sorenson co-led the team with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Abbie Saccomanno added 15 more on 3-7 from the floor, including a 7-8 clip from the free throw line.
Carbon finished the season with an overall record of 17-7, including a share of the Region 14 Championship after posting a 10-2 mark in region action. The Lady Dinos’ best stretch came near the end of the regular season as they ripped off eight straight victories, including seven straight to end Region 14 play, earning another region championship.
