The Lady Dinos played a consolation game on Friday against the South Sevier Lady Rams. S. Sevier took an early lead but Makenna Blanc hit two threes back-to-back at the end of the first quarter to pull Carbon close, 13-10.
Threes kept the Lady Dinos in the game early as Kaytlyn Cripps hit another three to make it 17-13. Each team then went into a scoring drought for several minutes before the Dinos were able to tie the game at 17 late in the half. With seconds left, Abbie Saccomanno was fouled while attempting a three point shot. She put in two of her three free throws to help Carbon take a 19-17 lead into halftime.
The Lady Rams came out strong in the second half and overtook the Lady Dinos with an 11-2 run. Carbon responded when Cripps was fouled on a three point attempt and subsequently made all her free throws. Blanc then drew a charge and Jordan Bianco was fouled on a layup. She also made both her shots from the charity strike to pull the Dinos within two, 28-26. On S. Sevier’s ensuing possession, the Lady Rams converted on a three point play the old fashion when they were fouled on a made layup and sunk the foul shot. With one quarter left to play it was the Rams up 31-26.
The Lady Dinos got it within three with 5:30 left and kept it close down the stretch. Carbon played hard the whole game but could not hit their free throws down the stretch and went cold from the field. On the other hand, the Lady Rams were efficient from the foul line, where they opened up the game in the final minute. Carbon was defeated 43-36.
Carbon grabbed 10 steals in the contest but only shot 24% from the field. Blanc led the team with nine points and four turnovers. Jodi Noyes had a frustrating end to her remarkable senior year. Congratulations to the Carbon Dinos on their season.
