A surprise downpour interrupted the Carbon versus Union girls’ tennis match that took place on Sept. 6. This match marked the first that Carbon was swept this year with Union walking away triumphant with a final overall score of 5-0. Jewelianna Nielsen lost her first match this season, ending the first singles with a score of 4-6, 7-6, 3-6.
Second singles was Gabba Christensen, who lost 0-6, 0-6. Third singles ended in the same fashion with Kaydance Scoville also scoring 0-6, 0-6. First doubles, played by Alex Cartwright and Aubrey Faucett, took a loss with a final score of 1-6, 2-6 while second doubles, played by Nicole Swasey and Tennysen Coon, followed similarly with 2-6, 3-6.
“We were missing several key players and had to have some of the girls play in positions that they don’t normally play in,” head coach Pete Riggs said.
On Tuesday, the girls faced off against Maseser Prep on their home court, ending the game on a much higher note, winning with a final score of 3-2. Nielsen found her footing and bounced back, winning first singles 6-1, 6-1. This score raised her overall record for the season to 10-1.
Swasey fought hard during second singles but was bested with a final score of 0-6, 0-6. Third singles, featuring Ana Olivas, ended on a high note with a winning score of 6-4, 7-5. Cartwright and Faucett teamed up for first doubles and won 6-4, 6-1. Second doubles, played by Scoville and Coon, ended with a defeat of 1-6, 2-6.
Next, the girls will travel to Delta on Thursday, Sept. 13.
