The USU Eastern’s women’s soccer team has dominated the 2023 season and showed no signs of slowing down against the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) Coyotes. Despite allowing a goal for the first time this season, a balanced attack pushed Eastern to a 7-1 dominating win over the Coyotes.

Abigail Wiggins got things started with a goal in the seventh minute, assisted by Victoria Kalista. The goal was Wiggins’ third of the season. Kalista scored a goal of her own in the 15th minute, pushing the Lady Eagles’ lead to 2-0.

CSN answered with a goal in the 23rd minute, scored by Layla Faught. Eastern quickly responded with a goal in the 34th minute by Andie Andrus, her eighth goal of the year. Sadie Coggins added another goal in the 43rd minute, just before the half. Coggins now has five goals on the season.

The Lady Eagles started the second half with a bang as Victoria Kalista scored two goals in three minutes to record her second hat trick of the season. Kalista now has nine goals in the last three matches, and 10 total on the season.

Keli’a Tatom scored in the 86th minute to provide an insurance goal for the Lady Eagles, her first of the year. Ruth Sumner continued to play well in the goal for USU Eastern, recording three saves and allowing just one goal.

The Lady Eagles will next take on the Snow College Badgers in Ephraim, Utah. The match is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.
