Recently, the Lady Spartans’ volleyball team had a pair of tough road matches. On Tuesday, the crew traveled to Richfield to take on the Wildcats.
The Lady Cats dominated early, winning the first two sets 25-16 and 25-9, respectively. Emery did not quit though, and battled back after going down 6-1 in the third set. The Lady Spartans went on a 23-10 run to take a 24-16 lead. Richfield came all the way back before Emery finally closed the door to win 25-23.
Fast forwarding to the end of the fourth set, the Lady Spartans were facing a match down 24-22. Emery then ripped off four points in a row to win the set 26-24 and take the match to five.
With the score tied at 11, each team was looking to close out the game. Emery served the ball and there was a long volley before Emery hit it into their own net. Richfield went on to win the next three points and take the tiebreaker set 15-11.
On Thursday, the Lady Spartans were in Monroe. Emery won the first two sets by a close score of 25-22 in each. Then, the wheels came off for Emery as the Lady Rams answered back with two set wins of their own, 25-15 and 25-14.
In another tie-breaking set, Emery was unable to close out the game and fell 15-13.
The losses drop Emery to 5-9 overall and 0-5 in region play. The girls have played better then their record shows but they will need to start stringing some wins together to get back in the race.
Up next, Emery will welcome Grand (10-4, 2-2 Region 12) into town on Thursday. The Lady Red Devils beat Emery 3-1 in Moab earlier this month.
