You can sit in a portable duck blind and estimate how far ducks are from you at the Sept. 10 clinic.

DWR Press Release

Delta — If you don’t know a lot about waterfowl hunting—but you want to learn—you won’t want to miss a free clinic on Sept. 10.

The clinic will be held at Gunnison Bend Reservoir. The lake is in Delta, just east of Richfield. The clinic runs from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Even though the Sept. 10 clinic is aimed at younger hunters, everyone—regardless of age—is invited and encouraged to attend.

“You don’t need to bring anything with you—just a passion for hunting and learning about wildlife,” says Heather Talley, regional wildlife recreation coordinator for the Division of Wildlife Resources. “Engaging in different aspects of the clinic will help prepare you for the hunt.”

You can register for the event at www.wildlife.utah.gov/gunnison-bend-clinic.html. If you have questions about the clinic, call Talley at 435-868-8756.

Blair Stringham, migratory game bird coordinator for the DWR, says the waterfowl clinic will be a great opportunity to learn how to hunt waterfowl. “You’ll learn how to place decoys, how to call ducks and geese and everything else you need to know to be successful,” he says.

And, you might win a prize. Door prizes and raffle items will be given away, including a guided youth hunt and two BB guns. A free lunch will also be provided.

Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl, the nation’s leading waterfowl conservation organizations, are among those who helped the DWR put the event together.

Lynn Zubeck, manager of the Clear Lake Waterfowl Management Area, says the clinic provides a great opportunity to learn the basics of waterfowl hunting and where some of the best places are to hunt.

“The waterfowl season is 107 days long,” Zubeck says, “giving you lots of opportunities to plan hunts around your busy schedule. Waterfowl hunting is an incredible past time.”
