DWR Press Releas
Is hunting wild turkeys something you’d like to try but haven’t yet because you’re not sure how to find the birds and hunt them?
If you answered yes, it’s time to head to your computer. The Division of Wildlife Resources has produced a series of five videos that will show you how.
The series is titled Turkey Hunting Basics. You can find it on the DWR’s YouTube channel.
The videos cover:
- Turkeys in Utah, and where to find them
- Turkey signs
- Turkey calls, and how to use them
- Shotguns and camouflage
- Regulations and permits
Mike Christensen, videographer for the DWR, is happy the agency was able to complete the videos before the start of Utah’s general statewide turkey hunt.
“Utah’s backcountry is the perfect place to be in the spring, especially if you’re hunting turkeys,” Christensen said. “The video series should give you the basic information you need to get out this spring and give turkey hunting a try.”
Utah’s general statewide spring turkey hunt starts May 1 for those who are 17 years of age or younger. Then, on May 4, the hunt opens for hunters of all ages.
There’s no limit to the number of permits that can be sold, so you’ll have no problem getting one.
You can buy a permit online from more than 300 hunting license agents across Utah and at DWR offices.
