On May 30 through June 1, some Carbon and Emery athletes traveled to Wasatch High School to learn from coaches and former wrestlers with excellent credentials. The day started out with strength and conditioning, followed by the morning session, lunch break and afternoon session.

The athletes from Carbon and Emery were Brookleigh Unsworth, Dazi Thatcher, Madison Arroyo, Lily Clark, Emma Parker, Gaby Bencomo, Addy Lee, Dorothy Clark and Farrah Parker. Many of the athletes wrestled in high school last year and will continue to do so. With the others excited to start wrestling competitively in high school competition.

The Clinicians of the event started with Jake Short, who is the GVSU Women’s Head Coach, 3x NCAA qualifier and 4x Minnesota State Champion. Next was Hailey Corona, Wasatch High School Wrestling Coach, Cadet World Team member, 5x Fargo All-American, 2x Folkstyle National Champion and Pan American Champion and Marlynne Deede, 2x College National Champion, Olympic Trials Qualifier, 4x College All-American and 2022 US Open Runner-Up. Sage Mortimer, 2024 Senior National Champion, 2x Olympic Trials Qualifier, 2x College All-American and 4x Fargo Champion was another clinician, along with Lauren Mason, 2023 Senior National Team member, 2022 World Team Trials finalist and 4x College all-American.

The five Clinicians taught the ins and outs of wrestling, but more importantly the hard work and dedication it takes to achieve goals. With all of their accolades, the girls were inspired by the excellent role models they spent three days with. Madison Arroyo was awarded “Wrestler of the Camp”, herself and her teammates will continue to impress this upcoming year for Lady Dinos wrestling in its second year of the program.
