Carbon County resident Lara Olson grew up in Bountiful, Utah, before relocating to Price nearly eight years ago. Olson works at TougHer Gym on Price City’s Main Street as the gym manager as well as a personal trainer.
However, Olson holds another title as well. For some time now, Olson has been working hard as she proudly and actively engages in power lifting.
While Olson has been lifting weights for many years, her first power lifting meet was in May of 2018. She has been competing for 14 months and has competed in seven meets with the eighth coming in September. During the USPA Drug Tested National Championships that took place on July 11 through 14, Olson earned a great accomplishment as she power lifted her way into third place in the deadlift only 90 KG weight class.
Olson currently holds three state records. When prompted to choose the most challenging aspect of power lifting, Olson credits mind over matter.
“When you walk up to a barbell with 350 pounds on it, you have to convince yourself that you can pull that. Most people quit because they haven’t convinced themselves that they can lift heavy things,” she said.
Olson continued by stating that she absolutely loves power lifting. She lost her daughter, Brylee, five years ago to a DIPG brain tumor and stated that at the time, she felt very lost. Finding such a rewarding and challenging hobby was able to greatly assist Olson in grieving and beginning to heal.
“I lost my control, my willpower and my strength. Power lifting gave me that back. I have proved to myself time and time again that I am strong, I have control and I am a powerful woman,” concluded Olson.
