Tatton Insurance Agency began serving the area in 1952 with Maurice Tatton. The area’s well-known insurance agency has continued to evolve and grow throughout the years of providing service Castle Country, the State of Utah and beyond.
After Maurice’s health declined due to a stroke, his son Richard Tatton took over the agency in 1975, bringing personalized services to local residents. Richard welcomed Jake Mellor to the team in 2013, morphing the business into Tatton & Mellor Insurance. Tatton dedicated his career to serving local individuals and businesses for 40 years before handing the reins to Mellor in 2015 and entering fully into retirement.
Mellor took a proactive lead in the business, looking to expand not only services and expertise, but also coverage area. Mellor now carries licenses in over 17 states with over 42 national insurance contracts. The culmination of multiple advancements resulted in another name change. After 67 years of providing excellent insurance expertise locally, the business will now continue serving the local area, surrounding regions and coast to coast states under the name of Strategic Insurance Solutions.
Throughout this evolution, Mellor has been joined by an eager insurance team that is willing to learn and provide ever-improving services to clients. Mikaleen Mellor, Jake’s wife, along with Brent Stockdale, shine in their respective roles at the agency. Both recently took their expertise a step further by acquiring esteemed designations.
Mikaleen, after working the past 10 years in the medical field as a Registered Dental Hygienist, recognized the need for professionals to have adequate insurance protection from law-suits, specifically “high risk” professionals, such as physicians and dentists. As her work with her husband grew, she aimed to become a Personal Lines Coverage Specialist (PLSC) to better assist working professionals and clients in general, a credential she recently acquired.
Stockdale left a management position at a prior employer and joined the Mellor team in 2017. Stockdale has similarly sought to improve business prowess and has earned the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) credential. This knowledge allows Stockdale to better evaluate risk and insurance needs from the ground up for businesses, determining coverage that is sufficient for the risk on a case-by-case basis.
Both of these designations required vigorous training and exams, culminating with a trip to Columbus, Ohio and a 52-week mentoring/coaching program with renowned experts in the insurance industry. Mikaleen and Stockdale are currently the only specialists certified with these professional designations in Eastern Utah and clients are sure to be among the many who will benefit from their new level of expertise.
Mitchell Van Wagoner is the most recent member to join the Mellor team of professional service businesses. American Senior Benefits is a Bill Gephardt Approved agency, co-located with Mellor’s other professional service businesses. Van Wagoner is a Medicare specialist that helps seniors fill gaps in their Medicare coverage. As an independent agent, he works to secure the best plans, currently saving clients an average of $60 to $110 per month. Van Wagoner can assist with final expense policies, long-term care and life insurance as well as individual and group health insurance plans.
Van Wagoner, although a transplant to the area, has roots that run deep as his surname would indicate and he is looking to build his home and family in Castle Country. Originally from Tooele, he graduated from USU Eastern and looks forward to spending time with family in the area.
