Local photographer Amanda Wheeler took an unfamiliar step in front of the camera on Monday afternoon as she celebrated a ribbon cutting of her business, Amanda Wheeler Photography.

Wheeler has a lifelong passion for photography and walked into the professional realm two years ago as she turned her passion into a career.

“I like to think I see the world in a very different way,” Wheeler shared. “I am always looking for the beauty that isn’t always obvious to see. I am an artist at heart. I live for creating art any way I can. Sometimes it’s drawing, sometimes its painting, and almost always it is photography.”

Wheeler’s photography most often captures priceless images of children and newborns, but does span into family portraits and much more.

“I am always looking for a chance to try something new,” said Wheeler. “I am a strong believer that in life you will never grow and have new experiences if you never step out on a limb and challenge yourself.”

This belief has led Wheeler to capture memories for graduating seniors and athletes as well as engagement, bridal and wedding photos.

While many photos are taken by Wheeler on location, she also recently finished a renovated studio space to house many of her photo sessions. The studio is complete with a variety of backdrops and props to make each session unique and complete.

Wheeler lives in Helper where she manages her studio with her husband and two daughters.
