Three Emery Rodeo Team members won state champion in their respective events on Saturday, June 8 at the Utah High School State Rodeo finals in Heber City.
Champions are determined by points earned throughout the year and carried to state, points gathered by placing in the two rounds of competition at the finals. Average points, qualifying for the short go and their performance there also act as determinations.
Out of the fifteen different events of competition, three champions were from the Emery Rodeo Team. Dalton Allred was the bull riding champion, Wyatt Fox was the State Winner in the Light Rifle Competition and Monty Christiansen won the Reining Cow Competition and placed fourth in Saddle Broncs, qualifying him for nationals in two events. Kamz Rich will also be part of Utah’s National Team by placing third in bulls.
The Carbon Team had one State Champion, Shalako Gunter, who captured the Trap Shoot Championship. Other Carbon members making the national team were Kashley Rhodes, who earned third in light rifle and Ean Ellis, who took second in tie down roping.
These rodeo athletes will travel to Rock Springs, Wyoming, July 15 through July 19, for National Competition at the NHRSA finals.
