Recently, middle schools and junior highs from Carbon and Emery Counties participated in a recent band festival held on May 4 at San Rafael Junior High. Bands from Mont Harmon Middle School, Helper Middle School, San Rafael Junior High and Canyon View Junior High participated in the event.

Students are judged on a variety of criteria and are awarded a score ranging from a one (superior) to five, the lowest score awarded. At the competition, two judges each gave the band a score following the previously described system.

The Mont Harmon Middle School seventh grade band brought home scores of a two and three plus. The eighth grade band, however, brought home two superior ratings. Fellow Carbon County musicians from Helper Middle School’s combined eighth and seventh grade band similarly managed to score double superior ratings.

San Rafael Junior High’s seventh grade band earned a superior rating as well as a two plus from the adjudicators. The school’s blue band earned a two plus and a two while the school’s white band earned double two pluses. Canyon View Junior High earned a superior and a two plus thanks to their seventh grade band while the junior high’s combined eighth and ninth grade band earned double superior ratings.
