A citizen in Helper recovered old blasting caps from a mine yesterday evening. Hazmat responded to the situation and a bomb squad was also called in.
According to Helper City Police Chief Trent Anderson, the blasting caps were removed from the residence according to protocol. The responders then disposed of the caps, setting them off in east Helper near the cemetery.
Chief Anderson stressed the importance of using caution around potential explosives.
“If people do recover these old mining caps or dynamite, please contact your local authorities so that they can be disposed of properly,” he said.
