Madison Burrola Meets Commissioners as Miss Carbon County 2017

2017 Miss Carbon County Madison Burrola took time out of her busy schedule on Monday afternoon to present her platform and more to the Carbon County Commissioners.

Miss Carbon County is an extension of Miss America and has been a staple in Carbon County for 60 years. Burrola stated that she believes that the program continues to grow and improve. Her platform for the time that she is Miss Carbon County is “Mission I’m Possible: Choose Your Future.”

Burrola informed the commissioners that she chose this platform to create a positive support system for children and teens in the community that may not receive that support from home. Burrola believes that guidance is pertinent to achieve goals and be successful.

“My goal as Miss Carbon County is to create those positive support systems,” she stated.

Burrola plans to volunteer often at local elementary schools and is partnered with KIWANIS. She then thanked the commissioners for their continued support of the Miss Carbon County program and asked once more for financial assistance.

The Miss Utah Pageant will be in Salt Lake City in July of 2017. Burrola will represent Carbon County at this event, which costs up to $1,570 per contestant plus an extra $400 for Little Miss Carbon County. A breakdown of the costs were listed on an invoice that was available to the commissioners. Along with the pageant costs, Burrola requested assistance with the scholarship organization, which is upwards of $3,000 a year for scholarships. It was also requested that a fund is set aside for a permanent Miss Carbon County float.

Commissioner Jae Potter requested that Burrola and her team work together to see what fundraisers and events could be hosted to raise a portion of the money themselves. Potter then asked for the team to approach the commissioners again once that has been completed. However, a motion was made to consider funding for the registration fee.

“I would like to see what you can do in raising the rest,” Potter stated.
