Press Release
On January 26, 2019, there will be a USU Extension Day of Service from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will be making pillowcases for Mexico Beach, Florida. The city suffered from Hurricane Michael in 2018 and residents are in need of comfort.
Residents were given 2,000 pillows but nothing to cover them with. Event organizers would like to provide as many pillowcases as possible and invite community members to join in this wonderful service project.
If possible, please bring sewing machines, notions, etc. There will be some fabric provided but not enough for all. Please bring two, one-yard pieces of coordinating cotton (no flannel) fabric, neutral thread. This will make two coordinating pillowcases.
If you have fabric at home that could be used (cotton only, NO flannel), please donate to the USU Extension Office at 75 East Main #114 in Castle Dale anytime during this month.
Participants will meet in the Swell Conference Room at the Emery County Administration Building. Please park in the back and use the double doors. They will be the only ones open. It will take approximately one-hour to make these pillowcases and a demo of how to make them will be provided.
This is a great service project for 4-H portfolios, Sterling Scholars and Young Women. Please join use for an hour or for the day. Please come even if you can’t sew. We will need people to cut out fabric, iron and fold the finished pieces.
We need your help! See you on Jan. 26. For more information, please contact Christine Jensen at (435) 381-3539.
