The Utah State Eastern men’s soccer team defeated Colorado Mesa University Club 5-1 on Saturday in Grand Junction. By defeating CMU Club, Eastern picks up their first win of the season and on the road.
Head Coach Ammon Bennett said after the game that his team still has things to work on as they prepare for conference play.
“We controlled most of the game but are still having some issues defensively,” Bennett said.
Sophomores David Novoa and Austin Munoz were in goal for Eastern. Munoz led the team in saves with three. Freshman Micah Hammond led the team in shots with six and scored a goal.
Luke Madsen, Carlos Heredia, Robin Bopeso, and Guillermo Hernandez each added a goal in the win. Hernadez also led the team in assists after finishing the game with two.
The season continues for USU Eastern on the road in Henderson, Nev. This Thursday they will take on Lake Tahoe Community College and then finish the weekend against Sheridan on Saturday.
USU Eastern men’s soccer will open up their conference schedule against College of Southern Nevada on Sep. 8 in Las Vegas.
