The first agenda item at Wednesday’s Carbon County Commission meeting was a special one as a donation from the Mike Ballard Golf Tournament was presented to the community’s very own Frank Ori.
Ori, who had suffered from a stroke the previous December, has been an integral component in the golf tournament for many years. Rose Barnes and Linda Ballard presented the donation to Ori, stating first that a total of $37,692.55 was raised.
The check presented to Ori during the meeting was a grand total of $32,474.21. Ori personally spoke during the presentation, stating that the overwhelming support and love from the community he has received is amazing. He thanked all for the hope.
“People said I’d never walk or talk again and, boy, I proved them wrong,” Ori said.
Commission Chair Jake Mellor stated that getting to know Ori better during the last couple of years, he could not believe that one man alone could help so many charities and bring in tens of thousands of dollars to assist local people. Mellor expressed how appropriate it was that the donation would come to Ori now.
