Press Release
The paving schedule for the Nine Mile Canyon Road project has changed since the last update. Nielson Construction’s schedule has been somewhat inconsistent because of weather and other projects needing their attention.
The Nine Mile Canyon main road is paved with the first lift down to mile post 40, which is about a mile past the Gate Canyon intersection. Nielson Construction has paved almost all of the approaches from Soldier Creek to Harmon
Canyon with one more day needed to complete this task.
On Wednesday, paving will resume on the main road with the completion of the first lift. The “HMA” lift be completed in 7 to 8 days precluding storm events.
Neilson Construction plans to pave Monday-Saturday, possibly reducing this schedule to 3 or 4 days next week due to other project commitments.
When they pull back to the mine and begin the final 1 ½” lift of asphalt known as the “SMA” lift, paving is anticipated to be completed in 17 to 18 days.
Gravel shouldering and delineators will be following the pavement crew on this final lift.
As usual, there will be flagger operations controlling traffic and travelers should expect 30 – 45 minute delays each direction. Please watch for haul trucks, equipment and workers whiling traveling the canyon.
Clean up and shouldering will occur behind the paving operation with full completion anticipated by the end of October.
Please note that with the weather patterns in the area, this schedule could change.
