A two-vehicle accident on Saturday afternoon took the life of an Orangeville man. The accident occurred at the junction of SR 10 and SR 29 near Castle Dale.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, two passenger cars were traveling eastbound on SR-29, approaching the intersection with SR-10, about a mile northeast of Castle Dale at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. A third vehicle was southbound on SR-10.

“The first eastbound vehicle came to a stop at the stop sign and proceeded safely through the intersection,” authorities reported. “The second eastbound vehicle did not stop, but drove through the intersection and into the path of the southbound vehicle. The second eastbound vehicle was impacted in the driver’s side by the southbound vehicle.”

The eastbound driver, Trevor Lutes, of Orangeville, was transported to an area hospital in extremely critical condition. A short time later, he passed away as a result of his injuries.

Troopers are investigating if Lutes, 41, was impaired by alcohol. No official report regarding impairment has been released.

Additional information is pending as troopers are currently investigating and diagramming the scene of the incident.
