Paint Night at Balance Rock Eatery a Masterpiece

The Balance Rock Eatery in Helper may not be the Sistine Chapel. However, on Friday night, it was home to a group of local Michelangelos under the direction of local artist Kate Kilpatrick.

The event, which allowed interested persons the chance to practice their skills under Kilpatrick’s instruction, also acted as a benefit for the Helper Arts Festival, with proceeds from the night being used to help support the festival that will be held this summer.

Participants could choose to paint one of two pictures, each of a blossomed tree branch in spring with differing backgrounds.

Kilpatrick, who has been painting now for three years, was raised in Davis County before following her passion for art. Her passion led her to take part in workshops taught by local artists David Dornan and John Erickson and eventually to establish her studio in Helper, where she also teaches others.

“I think everyone had a successful painting,” Kilpatrick explained. “We plan on doing one every month up to the arts festival and maybe even beyond. We’ll see how it goes.”

Kilpatrick also explained that the featured teacher in May will be fellow local artist David Johnson.
