Panthers, Pirates Compete at State

Teams traveled to the 1A State Cross Country Championship on Tuesday in Salt Lake City. Pinnacle and Green River were amongst the runners at Rose Park.

Pinnacle’s Kiera Davis was the top finisher on the day as she took 45th with her time of 25:40.1. Fellow Lady Panthers that competed include Kaydence Romero (64th, 26:47.7), Luz Ruelas (67th, 31:08.1) and Heather Kerr (70th, 35:14.3).

Meanwhile, Green River did not have any athletes in the girls’ race. Panquitch ended the day on top with 41 points, followed by Rich and Whitehorse. The Lady Panthers did not have enough runners to earn a team score.

On the boys’ side, Green River’s Jose Luis Quintana was the top local finisher in 52nd place with a time of 20:40.3. He was joined in the race by Pirates Jason Hernandez (90th, 23:48.3), Antonio Macais (93rd, 24:02.6) and Gabriel Quintana (97th, 24:36.1).

For Pinnacle, the top finisher was Riley Davis in 66th with a time of 21:42.0. He was joined by Jackson Shiew (77th, 22:34.4), Joey Howell (82nd, 23:05.6), Evan Nunez (87th, 23:22.6) and Brody Howell (88th, 23:30.0).

In the end, Monticello claimed the championship as a team with 54 points. Pinnacle took 13th as a team, while Green River did not have enough athletes for a team score.
