The Pinnacle boys beat Green River Friday night in the Region 19 opener for both teams while the Green River girls finished up the night in Price with a win over the Lady Panthers.

Levi Rutherford scored 21 points for his second consecutive 20+-point game in his team’s 56-38 win over the Pirates. Leading by 10 at the half, Green River made the game interesting by cutting the Panther lead to just four entering the fourth. Pinnacle responded big time in the fourth, outscoring Green River 21-7 to secure the win.

Jacob Cox led the Pirates with 16 points, including fourth threes. Jovini Flores added nine. Noah Mascarenas scored eight points, dished out five assists and finished with six steals for Pinnacle.

In the girls’ game, three Lady Pirates scored in double figures, led by Maribel Escalante with 11 points. Savannah Williams and Presley Lovato scored 10 apiece. Miranda Johnson also grabbed 11 rebounds. Green River beat Pinnacle 38-26.

Alexus Salazar led Pinnacle with seven points. Dellenie Paletta pitched in six.

After securing a three-point lead after one quarter, Green River saw Pinnacle cut its lead to just one, 15-14, at halftime. A big third quarter, in which the Lady Pirates outscored the Lady Panthers 17-6, spurred Green River to the win in the region opener for both teams.
