The first game of the week for Green River occurred on Friday in Monticello. It was slow moving for the Pirates, who did not make their first field goal until the second quarter.
By that time, the Buckaroos had gained a substantial lead, going into the break up by 19, 31-12. Monticello closed the door in the second half and took the game 60-37.
Green River did not hang its head, however, as the Pirates regrouped on Saturday at home. Monument Valley did not know what hit it as the Pirates exploded with 28 points in the first quarter to lead 28-8.
The Cougars tried to get back in it, but Green River slammed the door shut with another 21 points in the fourth to win 71-46. The victory marked the best performance for Green River on the season.
The Pirates (2-17, 1-5) will look to keep it going on Wednesday when they host Pinnacle (7-9, 3-3).
