A fundraising event was conducted on Saturday to earn money for the Miner’s Memorial. Participants played in a Texas Hold ‘Em competition with the top 10 winners earning custom made medallions by Gary Prazen. Overall, the event raised nearly $2,500 and 43 people participated.
The goal of the Miner’s Memorial is to remember and honor the coal miners of Carbon County who lost their lives in an area coal mine. In total, there are over 1,400 miners whose names will grace the memorial wall when complete.
Fundraising events will be conducted throughout the next year to earn the money needed for the memorial. The expected cost of the Miner’s Memorial is $250,000 and it is expected to be complete by Labor Day 2015. The memorial will be located at the Price City Peace Gardens.
