Friends, family and community members gathered together on Friday in Price’s City Hall for a re-dedication service of the Price City Mural after a restoration process that ended in August. The mural was started in 1938 by artist Lynn Fausett and completed in 1941, according to information from Price City.

The restoration process, completed by Scott Haskings from the Fine Art Conservation Laboratories and according to a film provided about the project, included the cleaning of the mural, the reattachment of canvas in needed areas, minimal painting in certain areas and the application of a varnish.

Those in attendance were able to view the mural and then hear from selected speakers. Price City Mayor Joe Piccolo offered a few words of welcome at the beginning after which Ronald Watt spoke on the history of Price City and highlighted several persons instrumental in the city’s history. After his remarks, Kitty Horsley Ford spoke about pioneer entertainment found in the area and Doug Horsley on one of the first May Day Celebrations held in Price City. Helene Majors then spoke about a specific historical figure, Hans Ulrich Bryner Jr., Roy Nikas on the history of the Greek influence of Price and Madalene Willimas about Catholicism in Price City.

“I’d like to give one last comment,” Mayor Piccolo expressed  at the end of the service. “That is as we have recognized our rich cultural heritage that belongs in this community, and as we stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us, let us each strive to make it a better place to live day by day for the upcoming generation.”
