The first Region 12 girls’ golf match of the 2020 season was hosted on Thursday afternoon at Cove View in Richfield.
Richfield, the returning state champions, took the first place spot once again with 311. Their best swinger of the day was Ellie Hair with 75. Richfield was followed closely by Emery High, who earned second place with 405.
Angie Nielson led the way for the Spartans, shooting a 93. Sydney Alton also kept her score under 100 with 97.
Carbon High School also played well, earning third place at 409. Coach Kenji Otani remarked that it was not the start that they wanted, but they got their benchmark.
“We know what to work on and look forward to improving over the season. The girls never gave up and for four of them, this is the first 18 holes they have ever played,” Otani stated.
Jordan Bianco played well, taking fifth place individually. Otani concluded by stating that he wished the team would have played better, but he is proud of the effort.
