Rollover near Green River claims two

On July 7 at 12:42 pm a 2004 Nissan pathfinder was eastbound on I-70 at mile marker 158, west of Green River. The vehicle was eastbound occupied by eight individuals. The driver went off the left side of the roadway and then steered back onto roadway. Over-correcting in steering resulted in a loss of control of vehicle. Vehicle began rolling on the highway and ended rolling off the right side of the highway. During the rollover two passengers were ejected from the vehicle. It is believed the fatal victim was sitting between the second row seats, not in a seat or belted in. The other victim ejected was also not wearing a seatbelt and later passed away at a Grand Junction medical facility. The remaining occupants of the vehicle were all wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident and sustained minor injuries.

The fatal victims were identified as 14-year-old Daisy Figueroa and her  64-year-old grandmother Alicia Figueroa from Denver, Colo.

The driver, 25-year-old Miguel Figueroa was not injured and the other five passengers who were seatbelted in the vehicle had little to no injuries.
