Carbon and Richfield played neck-and-neck through three quarters before a cold spell took hold of the Dinos in the fourth, losing the Region 12 battle, 50-37.

Down 9-7 with seconds left on the clock in the first quarter, Mitch Olson grabbed a rebound off a Cole Fossat miss and knocked down a 10 footer from nearly behind the backboard to tie the game. Both teams struggled offensively in the period.

The offensive woes continued for both teams in the second, but another buzzer beater from Carbon sent the Dinos into the half with a two-point lead, 23-21. The bucket came from Fossat as he drove the length of the floor in five seconds for a layup as the horn sounded.

A slow third quarter sped up with seconds left as Carbon’s Andrew Kotter drove the lane and threw up a floater, which beat the clock for the Dinos’ third buzzer-beater of the game. The period ended with a 32-all tie.

Richfield’s Brandon Willardson, 2A’s fourth leading scorer, picked up two quick fouls in the opening minutes of the game and didn’t play until the third quarter. Willardson ended with 10 points on the night, all of which were scored in the second half.

Richfield would outscore Carbon 18-5 in the fourth to pick up the Region 12 win.

Olson led the Dinos with nine points. Fossat chipped in eight. In total, nine Dinos scored in the game.

With just two region games remaining, the Dinos need to win both to have any chance at making the postseason. Carbon (7-13, 0-6 Region 12) will play at Juab (11-7, 3-3 Region 12) on Friday. The Dinos will wrap up their season at home against Payson (12-8, 5-0 Region 12) on Feb. 13.
