Numerous volunteers were recognized Wednesday at Sally Mauro Elementary at itsВ inauguralВ appreciation tea party.В The PTA provided refreshments and door prizes.
In the school’s volunteer book were located numerous pages of the names of volunteers who came out in droves to help students.
“Once I started with the kids I just really enjoyed it,” said volunteer Richard Colombo. “It’s a lot of fun and I am going to come back next year because it’s so fun.”
Volunteers help in classrooms, chaperoneВ field trips, grade papers, among other things.
“They just step up and do whatever a teacher needs done,” said Karen Cone. “Schools couldn’t make it without the help of volunteers.”
Cone said they school sent out about 135 letters to potential volunteers and that they had about the same number of people come and volunteer throughout the year.
