Without four major contributors and their leading scorer scoreless at halftime, the Carbon Dinos found a way to upend the visiting Ben Lomond Scots Saturday night, 50-45.
The Dinos competed in a second straight game without the players due to disciplinary reasons.
Sophomore Kyle Quinton got the start at forward and contributed seven points. Peyton Fausett scored 10 first half points and finished with 12 overall along with 11 rebounds. Cole Fossat finished with nine points despite not scoring until the third quarter. Brad Williams led the Dinos with 16 points, including four three pointers. He also pulled down a career-high 10 boards.
After low scoring quarters in the first and second, the Dinos used a 16-6 third in which Williams and Fossat combined to nail four threes. The Dinos would lead by as many as nine points in the quarter. Carbon led after three, 38-31.
A back-and-forth fourth saw Ben Lomond get within three at 48-45 with a minute to go in the game, but clutch free throwing shooting by Fossat and Williams secured the team’s seventh win of the season.
Carbon (7-6, 0-0 Region 12) will play at Emery (5-4, 0-0 Region 15) Friday night. The game can be watched live on ETV Channel 10 at 7 p.m. The Dinos will begin Region 12 play Jan. 14 at home against North Sanpete.
