The Emery Spartans traveled to Sterling to take part in the Region 15 opening boy’s golf tournament at Palisade Golf Course on Tuesday. Out of six teams, Emery notched a second place finish in the tournament.
“I thought they did very well,” said head coach Kevin Reynolds. “I think a lot of them thought that they struggled but everyone struggled because it was their first time out. I think everyone will get better and keep improving.”
Race Nielsen led the Spartans with 84 points. McKoy Holt came in second with 87 followed by Kyler Farley with 93. Deryk Fuller rounded out the scoring with 100. Oakley Toomer and Shayden Killpack also competed for the Spartans, hitting 101 and 103, respectively. The top four scores are taken to make the team’s total.
Grand topped the competition with 350 followed by Emery with 364. Manti took fourth with 366 followed by North Sevier with 395. San Juan hit 413 and Gunnison finished with 419.
The Spartans will next travel Soldier Hollow golf course to compete on Tuesday, Aug. 18,
