Needing just one more win to cap off an undefeated Region 12 season, the Emery Spartans scored four runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to take an 8-3 victory over the North Sevier Wolves Tuesday in Salina.

The perfect region mark was Emery’s first since the Deseret News began tracking baseball standings in 2001.

Going into the sixth tied at three, coach Steven Gordon called for three bunts in the inning to go along with three singles to regain the lead. Race Nielson began the inning with a single. Easton Gordon then placed a bunt that stayed on the chalk line that the Wolves let go to see if it was going to stay fair or foul. Coach Gordon then called for another bunt, this time from Ridge Nielson, that was perfectly placed and loaded the bases. Ethan Tuttle then singled home Race and Gordon. Another bunt by Dillon Wilstead got Tuttle to second and Ridge to third. Tyson Roper then singled home Ridge before Mark Debry finished the inning with a single that scored Tuttle.

Brcye Dugmore started on the mound for the Spartans and pitched three innings, leaving with a 3-3 scored. Ridge came on in relief over the next two innings to get the win. Tuttle finished the sixth and seventh for Emery.

Emery will host two rounds of the regional playoffs Saturday before games move to Utah Valley University the following weekend. Emery will take on Millard or whoever finishes as the sixth seed out of Region 16 (either Rowland Hall or American Leadership) at 1 p.m. in Castle Dale.
